Mumbai – Final Thoughts
After a long time I thought it was time to activate my dormant blog and write what I gathered after introspection about my stay in Mumbai. Before that let me tell you, I have shifted to Bangalore and I am feeling freshness after leaving hectic life in Mumbai.
When I recollect, I think I was not only lost in Mumbai’s hectic life but I had no time to think about me and my interests. Infact, Mumbai completely sapped my energy.
I used to run in Mumbai local trains everyday and think about the famous quote “Compassion cant be learned without suffering”. It was easy for me to understand the tough daily life in Mumbai. Everyday I saw people running over one another, everyday I saw people hanging out of the train, sitting on the top of the train and everyday I was among them fighting to enter the train.
Probably if our politicians were asked to travel parliament by Mumbai local train, things would have been different in public transport system.
I am finding Bangalore much better place in terms of quality of life than Mumbai. Though I respect the spirit of life and positive attitude in Mumbaikar’s, I think there are many better places other than Mumbai to stay in India. Mumbai is already overcrowded and lacks proper infrastructure. If the outflow is more than inflow, probably the infrastructure may be able to handle Mumbai’s population.
Still if one has to stay in Mumbai, start accepting the reality that two hour journey is common and don’t crib about it. This Condition must be accepted before entering Mumbai. You should accept this fact if you want to adapt in Mumbai.
Second, become an expert in getting in and out of local trains. In fact, catching a train has to become an adventurous affair for you
Even, the government can help new people with proper orientation. Like most companies orient new recruits about the work culture, the government should orient new people to understand the local train system and how to get in and out of trains.(Well, dont take this seriously!)
Apart from Mumbai life, the people around me also contributed a lot in wasting my energy. I realized that the company of impatient, short tempered and screaming guys can make ones life hell and when that happens its time to relocate. If you are surrounded with those who don’t go well along with you or those who intrude too much in your life, you will soon start feeling your life more of a liability than a asset.
For example, if you feel uncomfortable when people around you always talk what you should wear and how you looking, its time to stop and think if you are among the right company.“Will this shirt look good on me??” this question may make sense if you are preparing for a special occasion. But if you ask this question every day, something is surely wrong with you. This may mean that you lack self confidence and you want assurance from others about your dressing sense. It may also mean that you lack the content inside yourself and try to cover it up with your clothes ………but that’s a trivial matter.
The important point is that a person should be cautious of the company he sits or eats with because your friends can make a lot of difference in life.
Anyways, Some facts…… do you know people die everyday on Mumbai Railway Tracks? .Infact, I saw a horrible scene, a lady in two pieces on railway tracks. She was not the only one who was crossing the tracks; everybody crosses the tracks every time in Mumbai. It was only that her timing was not right.Does this fact changes anything? No, people still cross railway tracks and are slaughtered everyday. In fact I captured a live video of people crossing tracks and traveling on the top of the train. If Interested you can have a look at Live Video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WEQSjLWN3Bk)that I captured just before leaving Mumbai
I think Mumbai, or for that matter India, needs liberators. Liberators are those who set new trends in the society. They change the society rather than conforming to society.. Off course, It takes time for the liberators to get accepted, but they do what they think is right. They don’t conform to the society and don’t live a shackled life. They are the one who ask questions, who seek reasons before following any tradition. Few liberators can change the face of Mumbai but I don’t know when they will emerge.
